It's Time to Cosy Up!

It's that time of year again and here at Uneeka we're looking forward to cosying up and sitting by the fire. With our new collection of knit wear and throws set to launch online in two weeks time, we've been looking for some serious style inspiration.

With crafts and make your own one of the key trends in interiors this season we've all taken up knitting in the Uneeka office and are loving some of these images which are taking knitting to the extreme!!

I'm not sure we're quite up to these standards just yet!

Cadbury's Goes Fairtrade

We all like chocolate right!? Well here at Uneeka we love chocolate and we pride ourselves on selling the best fairly traded chocolate on the market from Divine to Seed & Bean. So we we're thrilled to learn that everyone's guilty please Cadbury's Dairy Milk had gone fair trade!

We're already a big fan of Cadbury's advertising campaigns, brought to us by Glass and a Half Full Productions, you may remember the Gorilla playing drums along to Phil Collins and the two eye brow dancing kids? Well the new advert for Cadbury's fair trade is even better.

To celebrate dairy milks fair trade certification they have released they're first music single 'Zingolo' a celebration of all things Ghanaian. It's brilliant check it out here.

Well done Cadbury's - we can now justify that guilty pleasure after all!!

Fair Trade at London Fashion Week

As a Fair Trade retailer, it makes us very happy to see that London Fashion Week 2009 is again supporting the development of clothing and fashion that is produced in a sustainable and ethical way.

Esthetica, the ethical wing of LFW, opened its sixth season showcasing a number of ethical labels and independent brands. The big draw this year was the unveiling of Defra's Sustainable Clothing Action Plan.

Lord Hunt, who is both the Minister for Sustainable Development & Energy, and the Minister for DEFRA, used London Fashion Week as a platform to announce details of the new Sustainable Clothing Action plan.

Showing on the LFW catwalk in conjunction with Estethica was the Danish label, Noir, designed by Peter Ingwersen, who bought a certain sex appeal to it's autumn/winter 09/10 collection with billowing dresses, velvet box jackets and leather leggings. Noir keeps production within the EU or, when sourcing outside, ensures CSR standards on workers’ rights and environmental protection are adhered to.

Independent ethical labels where also well represented with British-made brands Eloise Grey and Anatomy who incorporated a sharp-tailored take on classic English style using organic wools and wool tweed.  One of Uneeka’s very own suppliers People Tree, the 100% fair-trade pioneer brand were also showing with a strong collaboration with Eley Kishimoto featuring cutely patterned dresses, which we just can’t wait to get our hands on!

Also featured this year is another Uneeka supplier Leju the eco-friendly jewellery label who work with artisans in South America to produce accessories made from the sustainable material Tagua. We were thrilled to be invited to visit them at their stand at Somerset House this year.
