LeJu

Leju was founded by Lenny Trines and Juan Munoz. The aim of LeJu is to combine the best in contemporary jewellery design with sustainable materials taken from nature, as well as fusing the ideas and manufacturing techniques garnered from South America with European fashion to create designs that are unique and full of colour. The concept for Leju was inspired by designer Lenny who, whilst travelling through South America became inspired by natures elements. Lenny also spent 8 weeks in the Amazonian rain forest where she discovered different little villages, and it was there that the idea to create jewellery using natural materials, and the colours, shapes and energy echoed in the rain forest was born. Juan Munoz is the business side of LeJu and is responsible for the global management of the company.

This fantastic jewellery range is made from a seed known as Vegetable Ivory, which is obtained from a palm tree called Hyphaene Phytelephas, found in the Amazonian rain forest. Vegetable Ivory is the only sustainable alternative for elephant ivory, as they both share very similar colour and hardness qualities. Prior to being used in these artisan jewellery pieces, the seeds must be dried naturally to gain the correct hardness required for carving. Also, the older the seed is, the more expensive it becomes. Once hardened, the top layers of the seeds are dyed using natural plant extracts to provide a wide range of wonderful colours. As well as using Vegetable Ivory, LeJu use other natural materials like: Greek leather, ceramic beads which are hand dipped in 925 Sterling Silver and semi precious stones.

All the collections are designed in their London studio which allows LeJu to maintain the highest standards in quality and ensure that each piece of jewellery remains a supreme example of craftsmanship. The pieces are then handmade over in their own Columbian factory by local artisans.

LeJu also designs and exhibits for London Fashion, showcasing the latest in ethical and sustainable jewellery that makes a positive diference to the planet.
