Traditional Crafts - India
Traditional Crafts employ 17 permanent & 30 freelance artisans (traditional craftsmen and women) and 60% of their workforce is made up of women. The embroidery and beadwork is done at home with the rest of the work being handcrafted in their factory. Employees receive employees state insurance & bonuses in addition to statutory wages.
Traditional Crafts are an environmentally conscious organisation, using only natural raw materials such as cotton & metal and they do not produce waste. They give donations to various social causes in their local community & are planning to start something more direct among the families of their workforce. One of their main aims is to translate traditional Indian handicrafts into items that fit into a western lifestyle. Thus keeping the art and craft alive, and providing much needed employment for local communities.
